AdMob seeks distribution with WordPress plugin

Mobile advertising network AdMob is trying to prise a route into the mobile blog ad space, having released a plugin that converts WordPress blogs for mobile devices.

dotMobi developer Andy Moore wrote a WordPress extension that converts posts written in the popular blog platform to display styles suitable for phones and PDAs.

A plugin already existed that did that job by displaying slimmed-down stylesheets to mobile users, but Moore’s plugin also makes the WordPress dashboard suitable for on-the-go webloggers.

But AdMob’s press release this morning was not merely benevolence. The company, which encourages publishers to place its clients’ text ads on their mobile landing pages, worked with Moore to ensure his plugin would integrate with the service – bloggers can use the extension to insert some code that will include AdMob ads on their posts.

“This is an exciting development for the blogging community. Bloggers around the world can now take advantage of a new plug-in and generate revenues from their content straight away,” said AdMob Europe MD Russell Buckley (who we interviewed recently).

“We aim to reduce the entry level to mobile publishing by making it easy for WordPress users to go mobile and reap the rewards of AdMob’s advertising in just a few clicks,” said Moore.

MobileCrunch said a portion of displayed ad revenue goes to Moore.
