The BBC and ITV have won the UK broadcast and new media rights from European soccer body UEFA to its Euro 2008 championships. The rights package for the tournament, played between national teams and held in Austria and Switzerland next summer, includes coverage on internet and mobile services, as well as live broadcast of 32 games. Rights for the last tournament, Euro 2004, brought around a million visitors a week to BBC Sport’s online presence, which unveiled the Virtual Replay 3D Flash goal playback feature, according to Nielsen/NetRatings, and gave ITV an opportunity to debut services like match betting on its interactive TV red-button facility.
