Guardian Launching 200-Year Subscription Archive Offering

Guardian News & Media is to make every edition of its newspapers since 1791 available in a subscription online archive (via Guardian). Olive Software of Santa Clara, California, began digitising and making searchable the archives in December 2006; on November 3, editions of The Guardian between 1821 and 1975, and editions of The Observer from 1900 to 1975, will go online and will be available for free over a 24-hour trial period through the month. The remainder will go up early next year and will be subject to subscription. ProQuest CSA was picked as a distributor to sell access to universities, libraries and businesses. The Times already has a similar archive reaching back to 1985.
