BBC Newsnight Relays Phantom Wall Street Fortunes

Nobody’s perfect, so forgive BBC Newsnight for stating in its markets round-up on Thursday “Dow Jones (NYSE: DJ) was substantially down amidst more credit crunch fears” – when Wall Street was, in fact, shut on Thursday for Thanksgiving.

In his blog, an embarrassed Newsnight editor Peter Barron appears to lay the blame at the door of Newsnight’s “mortified” economics editor Stephanie Flanders and repeats a note he’s now inserted in to the style book: “MAKE SURE YOU CHECK THE AMERICAN MARKETS ARE NOT ON A HOLIDAY.” Oxford and Harvard grad Flanders’ glowing bio includes stints at the US Treasury, New York Times (NYSE: NYT) and FT. She had an off day on America’s day off. (Via RegretTheError).
