Scandal-Hit Call-TV Outfit Eckoh Turns To Print With Trinity-Mirror

Eckoh, the UK-based voice recognition service that powers participatory telephony services, has been picked by newspaper publisher Trinity-Mirror to run its interactive services. The company will power votes, competitions, games and information lines for both the regional and national titles, including the Daily Mirror. Eckoh‘s revenue was hit after it was embroiled in Britain’s 2007 TV phone-in fraud scandals – getting fined £150,000 ($294,000) by the premium-rate regulator for letting Channel 4 viewers pay for uncounted competition entries, and earning the threat of a subsequent lawsuit from C4 itself. After that fiasco, this newspaper deal indicates a departure from its core TV client base. CEO Nik Philpott said the change of emphasis “reflects the new and challenging demands that the industry now requires”, requiring “strict compliance” (via announcement).
