UK Bits: Virgin Appeals BSkyB; Disney Traffic Up

Virgin appeals BSkyB: Now both BSkyB (NYSE: BSY) and Virgin Media (NSDQ: VMED) are appealing the Competition Commission’s ruling the satellite broadcaster should slim its 17.9 percent ITV (LSE: ITV) stake to 7.5 percent – but for different reasons. Virgin is arguing the stake should be offloaded entirely, Reuters reports. BSkyB last week said it would appeal on grounds the enforced threshold is too slim.

Disney (NYSE: DIS) traffic up: Disney is boasting it got 42 percent web visitors within one month of relaunching its UK site. The stats are Nielsen Online figures from January compared with December, when the site – still rather bloated – added gender-based navigation, chat facilities and more video (see our post). The mouse house is claiming year-on-year traffic is up 55 percent to three million a month.
