The Premier League quietly won High Court injunctions this week against three websites accused of illegally streaming its live football matches over the net. FreePremierLeague.com, FootballOn.net and PremiershipLive.net had been helping re-distribute signals from rightsholders like Sky Sports. But the EPL was awarded costs and damages along with the ruling.
It’s been a growing problem for the league over the last few years as the global audience grows for the English game – FreePremierLeague.com had charged £7, for example. Now both it and FootballOn.net have disappeared; PremiershipLive.net was today still inviting sign-ups to its £14.95 offering, but the league said this sets a precedent against the many remaining similar sites.
