DMGT Merging National And Regional At Top, Beatty New CEO

imageDaily Mail (LSE: DMGT) & General Trust is bringing together its national Associated Newspapers and regional Northcliffe Media divisions under a new name, “A&N Media”.

Both units will continue to operate, delivering newspaper and digital publishing, “while realising the efficiencies that this combination brings about“. Associated MD Kevin Beatty will take the A&N CEO role, adding it to his current job. Michael Pelosi will remain Northcliffe MD. A spokesperson told me the move is about “putting a stamp on what’s already been done”, with a number of back-office operations having already been merged.

This might “create efficiencies” – but it’s yet another divisional name within DMGT, and the latest management restructure for the group, which got rid of Associated Northcliffe Digital (AND) MD Andy Hart after six years in a July shake-up. In October, AND separated its online publishing and commercial ops. This move effectively sees Beatty given control of Northcliffe‘s 100-plus regional papers and 24 websites.

All of the papers are repositioning for scale as they shuffle chairs to meet demands of 24/7 integration… Trinity Mirror (LSE: TNI) this week appointed Mark Hollinshead of all its nationals and James Murdoch installed a single COO across all News International titles in June – but one boss for both regional and national is something different.
