Sounds like creating the internet’s most popular DRM-free audio format can be a reap rewards. Fresh from investing in German techno download site DJTunes, MP3 co-inventor Karlheinz Brandenburg is now putting money in to another startup, Audiomagnet. Due for an April launch, the Hamburg-based site, currently in beta, wants to become a community where artists connect with fans, setting up stores to sell CDs, downloads and merchandise, including through proliferation of widgets.
“Because of its experience in both the music business and technology, it is a reliable partner – for artists and for me as an investor,” said Brandenburg in the release. The size of Brandenburg’s investment was not disclosed.
