AOL Brings Another Niche Blog To UK; How About TMZ, Engadget?

imageJust in time for the recession, AOL (NYSE: TWX) is localising its WalletPop money-saving blog for the UK, seven months after it launched States-side. It’s the latest regionalisation of AOL’s new strategy to produce vertical content sites on which to sell ads. Car site Autoblog crossed the pond in November and men’s lifestyle blog Asylum was localised in May but, despite an earlier announcement, music blog Spinner never made the jump. AOL was also evaluating launching Engadget here and we would also keep an eye out for TMZ making a play for Britain’s celeb news hunters.

WalletPop fits in to AOL UK’s Money channel, which AOL says got an average 518,000 uniques and 97 percent more page views in H208. It will include credit-crunch news, money saving tips and discount shopping codes, and will be supported by AOL’s Platform-A ad unit.
