Radiohead: We Rejected Digital-Only To Reach More People

More than two years after Radiohead released its pay-what-you-like online album In Rainbows, the project is still being talked about as revolutionary, despite being just one example of the many new-wave distribution methods, and despite getting an eventual chart-topping CD release.

In this video interview with the upcoming Midem music conference, the band’s Ed O’Brien says online-only couldn’t reach enough ears…

“At one stage, it was put that it would be a digital release only, no physical release at all, a real statement…

“But we realised that … everybody likes to get their music in a certain way and they don’t like to go off-route with it. You have to make your music available to lots of people in different ways, make it available to people how they want to consume it.”
