If you needed further proof that many publishers just see iPad as a way to reproduce both the aesthetic and business model of paper, look no further than Die Welt’s app

The Axel Springer paper’s “iKiosk” app is so enamoured by print, it presents editions of the title as though on a street newsstand, complete with wire frame.

Like many others, Die Welt is using iPad as another outlet for its existing digital-edition PDF replicas, largely inherited from iPhone replica apps.

But further multimedia features are promised and: “The display of the content has been further improved for the iPad and a simple, user-friendly navigation through the individual pages was designed.” Reports Die Welt itself: “The digital image looks almost exactly like the paper printed counterpart.”
