Digital Subs Boost Informa’s Half-Year

Lloyd’s List and Datamonitor academic, scientific and business publisher Informa is the latest publisher to post a big profit increase despite slow revenue.

January-to-June revenue dipped two percent to £624 million, but profit more than doubled to £66.4 million ($103 million).

In fact, Informa is, in many ways, a model business for many of our readers…

— 67 percent of its publishing income comes from subscriptions.

— 75 percent of publishing revenues are from digital products.

CEO Peter Rigby: “The steady move towards greater digital delivery of content is further improving the quality of our earnings.”

He said he had also tipped the balance of subscriptions more heavily toward enterprise licenses, from single-subscriber subs.

Informa says it paid £4.9 million in April for CPDCast.com, a legal training podcasts producer.
