Independent.co.uk MD Swanson Leaving For Digital Investment

The Independent’s digital MD Bill Swanson is leaving the publisher to join “a boutique investment house specializing (sic) in the digital media space”, Swanson’s own Independent.co.uk reports.

Swanson has headed the Indy’s online ops for five years, following a four-year tenure as News International commercial manager.

The Indy’s story says the site is profitable – something not every newspaper site can say: “Bill and his team brought profitability to the digital division in difficult market conditions, and at a time of uncertainty for the newspaper prior to its acquisition by Lebedev Holdings.”

Swanson’s “goodbye” in the press release falls to Andrew Mullins, who is now MD “for Independent, Independent on Sunday and London Evening Standard”, following The Indy’s addition to Lebedev’s earlier acquisition in March.
