The cheesy Brit drama is already a TV hit with kids and sci-fi geeks around the world. Now Doctor Who looks set to boost BBC Worldwide’s digital earnings in game form this Christmas.
Two Nintendo titles are coming out – Doctor Who: Evacuation Earth for DS and Doctor Who: Return to Earth for Wii – while a third game, Doctor Who: The Mazes of Time, is due for iOS.
The Nintendo games are made by game developer Asylum Entertainment and global distributor Koch Media, licensed by BBC Worldwide. Asylum’s MD Simon Bailey reckons: “The franchise has massive potential on the Nintendo DS and Wii formats.”
Koch’s accessories unit Blue Ocean is also retailing nine game accessory packs, notably a DS stylus and Wiimote in the shape of a sonic screwdriver (that’s an object used by the Doctor in the show, apparently). Blue Ocean’s Ben Jones expects they “will be a great seller this Christmas”.
The iOS game is more for grown-ups, trading on puzzles.
We these, along with the X Factor singing game, could be big family hits this Christmas.
