MySpace’s UK Sales VP Is Off To ITV

Reports MySpace (NSDQ: NWS) is due to make big layoffs and reduce to a skeleton international staff appear to have been lent credence by news its UK commercial VP is leaving.

Fox Interactive Media (FIM) sales and commercial VP Simon Daglish is joining ITV (LSE: ITV), Guardian.co.uk reports.

Fru Hazlitt – the former Yahoo (NSDQ: YHOO) Europe director and CEO of Virgin Radio and GCap – who joined ITV to run both commercial and online last summer, is making some commercial hires. Daglish will run multiplatform sales and partnerships.

As for ITV, former BSkyB (NYSE: BSY) commercial director Martin Goswami has also joined as a consultant and will be working to help drive ITV’s pay strategy,” NMA reports.

Daglish had worked with Hazlitt as GCap sales director from 2005 to 2008 and joined FIM in January 2009 after a stint at Channel 4. Hazlitt is also adding former Five exec Kelly Williams as sales director.

Guardian.co.uk: “ITV said that the changes reflected a desire to develop the broadcaster into a ‘global multiplatform company’ … (Hazlitt) said the TV sales operation and the multiplatform and partnerships divisions of her commercial operation had to work more closely together.”

Hazlitt, via Guardian.co.uk: “Simon has led multiplatform and non-TV media businesses. The ultimate aim is to deliver as well in broadband as we currently do in broadcast … Kelly … also has a refreshing ambition for the possibilities of a multimedia, fully integrated media business which is exactly what we need to become.”

When MySpace cut 720 staff in 2009, it slashed international from 450 to 150 and outsourced many country sites’ commercial ops to Fox International Channels. But, in Britain, it pulled all its ad sales in-house. Last year, Daglish told paidContent:UK: “(MySpace) UK is a sovereign entity. We have no plans to farm out our activities. It is a question of ambition and size, and we have big ambitions here,” he said
