Hearst’s UK magazine publisher NatMag is launching what it says is its first ever mobile products – simple mobile websites for just two of its 21 magazines.
After recently re-tooling its web production systems, NatMags is pumping content from its Company and Men’s Health mag sites through to spartan mobile sites developed by Mobile Interactive Group (MIG), with ads delivered by 4th Screen Advertising.
The company tells us more magazines will get the same treatment. It’s not exactly a radical strategy, and perhaps even late to the party, but NatMag’s contract with MIG also covers apps.
Meanwhile, regional newspaper publisher Johnston Press has contracted Velti to let it charge and engage with readers through SMS for competitions, paid promotions and opt-in information alerts such as local information bulletins.
