Red Bee Media – the company that handles online video distribution for BBC iPlayer, ITV (LSE: ITV) Player, 4OD, Demand Five and the Virgin Media (NSDQ: VMED) Player – will now offer its own video player service, too.
It says RedPlayer includes the ability for content owners to charge for subscription, rental, download-to-own or unlimited-access using Cisco (NSDQ: CSCO) Videoscape Media.
This is a space already occupied by vendors like Brightcove and Ioko. Competing with Cisco, Siemens is also offering its own cross-platform VOD-viewing software.
