It is an ad-tech world some think is beset by “fragmentation” problems.
But Travis Clinger sees that world coming together in a spirit of collaboration and interoperability.
In this video interview with Beet.TV, Clinger, SVP, Activations & Addressability, LiveRamp, says the upcoming Beet Retreat 2023 San Juan is the place where a better ecosystem could be thrashed-out.
Collaborating together
Clinger and LiveRamp were present at Beet.TV’s previous Beet Retreat in Santa Monica.
“What stood out to me was the calibre of attendees, but also really the calibre of the conversations,” he says.
“Some conferences you go to and it’s all kind of talk but then no action, no follow ups,” he complains.
“What differentiated Beet Retreat and some others was a conversation of how do we get the industry to better, what can we actually do today to take action on it and to make it a better ecosystem?”
The Beet Retreat, a gathering of high-level media executives, will take place at the Condado Vanderbilt Hotel, San Juan, Puerto Rico, February 8-10, 2023.
The event will involve three days of high-level panels, group conversations, one-on-one video interviews, networking events and interactions.
Clean room compulsions
Clinger breaks down “collaboration” into two parts – interoperability and privacy. The place those two imperatives intersect is in the new technology of “clean rooms” – software spaces that allow partners to commingle data in a way that does not leak privacy information.
LiveRamp just announced it will support the use of its transcoding and identity resolution capabilities inside AWS Clean Rooms, Amazon’s clean room solution that was announced in 2022.
The integration is billed as boosting the accuracy of analytics and decreasing the risk of personally-identifiable information or customer ID exposure.

“How do we make sure that everything we do with data clean rooms puts the consumer first?,” Clinger asks. “Clean rooms can’t sit in a silo.
“If you have safety in the clean room, but then you lose it when you go out to the ecosystem, you’ve defeated the whole purpose.
“So we’re really committed to ‘how do you build interoperable clean rooms that put the consumer privacy first, and then work across the ecosystem?’”
