Connected TV: BBC News On Sony, Absolute On Samsung, PlayJam Adds Games

Content owners are upping their roll-out on to connected TVs, which represent a great new distribution opportunity. Here are some of the latest…

The BBC News app, currently on Samsung Smart TV and Panasonic Smart Viera, is getting an average 6.2 page views per user per day (most pages are videos), executive product manager Aaron Scullion says.

Now the app is being rolled out to the other big connected TV platform – Sony Internet TV.

Next launches include for Virgin Media’s TiVo. The News app will form the basis of a similar London 2012 TV app.

Meanwhile, TV game platform PlayJam is adding classic games from GameHouse to its PlayJam Games Platform, now live on a number of IP-enabled TVs from Samsung, LG (SEO: 066570), Sony (NYSE: SNE), Panasonic, Western Digital, Vestel and Google (NSDQ: GOOG) TV-enabled devices from Q1 2012

Meanwhile, Absolute Radio has joined the circa-1,000 apps now on Samsung Smart TV. Its app includes its core channel, its decade-specific channels, plus its Classic Rock and Extra channels and Twitter feeds.
