ITV Re-Organising Regional Newsrooms’ Online Staffing

ITV (LSE: ITV) is making 10 dedicated online news producers redundant from regional newsrooms around the UK, as it tries to instill digital capability across its staff, paidContent has learned.

The broadcaster, led by CEO Adam Crozier, is making eight new posts for its “newsroom journalist” role.

“As ITV moves towards a fully integrated multi-platform news operation, each regional newsroom’s digital output will be the responsibility of the whole newsroom rather than an individual role, with news gatherers and journalists creating content for both television and online,” a spokesperson confirmed to paidContent.

“As part of this process, a new ‘newsroom journalist’ role will be created in each of the ITV regions.”

It is understood the current online producers’ roles had been temporary. Their role has involved updating websites with video packages and maintaining blogs and social media outlets.

The changes are happening in ITV’s eight English regions and its Wales nation but not in London, where content is provided by ITN. They do not affect ITV’s existing newsroom journalists or newsgatherers.

Many newsrooms have undertaken similar integration plans in recent years.
