Cupid Buys In To Germany With Dating And Content

The publicly-listed online dating website Cupid is buying two 75 percent of German businesses, OnlineLiebe and WomenWeb, for a combined €2.75 million (£2.5 million).

Both run by the same team, they were founded by Andreas von Maltzan, who in 2007 sold his earlier dating business Neu.de to Meetic. He will remain in charge of these companies.

OnlineLiebe runs thematic sites including Zuckerjungs.de, which is its main site and apparently “the market leader in the ‘Cougar’ dating niche in Germany”, plus Zuckerdaddys.de, Gleicheliebe.de and Gayjz.de.

WomenWeb runs womens interest sites including Womenweb.de, Frauen.de, Kochrezepte.de, Allegraclub.de, Esoteriktreff.de, Hochzeits-club.de and eight other portals, plus provides online communities for a number of well-known German women’s magazines such as Petra, Fuersie, Vital, Plus-Magazin and Frau im Leben.

The deal values the company at 1.7x revenue. Cupid has an option to buy the remaining 25 percent.
