Amazon (NSDQ: AMZN) appears ready to start retailing in India, in competition with the country’s Flipkart online seller of books and other items.
Local blog Pluggd.in reports amazon has hired Madhu M from Indian book retailer Landmark to run its operation. Amazon already had development centres in Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai.
It is also recruiting for a fulfilment controller, MBA-grade execs and software developers.
Back in April, Amazon UK extended free Super Saver shipping to India.
Pluggd.in reports without confirmation that Amazon was to buy Flipkart, founded by former Amazon employees, but that talks broke down over price. Instead, Flipkart just raised $20 million in venture capital.
