Demand Rival, Blog Network Populis’ Revenue Up

Populis, a European blog network and on-demand content house that is operating partly in Demand Media’s space, says 2010 revenue was €58 million.

That’s 37 percent up from 2009, when Populis was called GoAdv and which was before it made some acquisitions.

In 2009, net income halved to €1.3 million. An equivalent figure is not being given for 2010.

Populis pays small amounts to 1,000 non-professional writers; it publishes 35,000 articles per month, across its network of 500 websites. It now claims a million articles and videos, written after its systems check for popular topics amongst 16 million keywords.

Those articles are fed out through its properties Excite Europe, the BetterDeals portfolio of niche consumer guides and the blog networks Nanopublishing and Blogosfere. It recent bought Dada’s Italian blog network Blogo.it.

CEO Luca Ascani recently told paidContent:UK: “We still have €20 million in spare cash – we are looking to acquire in other markets.”
