Spotify is due to name independent label Domino Records’ long-time head of digital Steve Savoca as its U.S. content operations head, paidContent:UK has learned – another sign the music subscription service is gearing up for launch Stateside.
Former EMI Music VP Kenneth Parks has been Spotify’s USA general manager and company chief content officer since 2010. Savoca will report to Parks. Spotify is also hiring for designers, an engineer and a finance controller in the States.
Spotify last month told U.S. recipients of free test accounts, which it had given to impress the North American market, they must buy premium accounts.
Recent unconfirmed reports have said EMI and Sony (NYSE: SNE) Music Entertainment have licensed Spotify for the local market. Universal has not yet, we understand.
A music industry veteran, Savoca has been head of digital since 2006 at Domino, the well-thought-of indie that’s home to acts like Animal Collective, Sons & Daughers and Pavement.
