B2B Publishers Say 2010 Subscriptions Struggled, Will Be Better Next Year

B2B publishers Informa and Reed Elsevier (NYSE: RUK) say subscription renewal rates remained tough during the last few months.

In interim market updates, Anglo-Dutch LexisNexis operator Reed Elsevier said subs “remain constrained by low customer activity levels and budgets, while advertising, promotion and other cyclical markets have continued to stabilise”.

Datamonitor operator Informa said professional sub “renewals continue to be as tough as expected”, though 2011 indications are encouraging.

Reed said Reed Business Information’s data services are “growing well”, with advertising stabilising and more magazine sell-offs expected, leading it to expect improving prospects next year.

Informa declares itself “excited” by 2011 prospects for its professional and commercial information division.

Both companies also expect re-growth from their events businesses.
