BBC Picks Rivera As Online No. 2 From Major League Gaming

The BBC has finally appointed a new digital media director to run BBC Online, BBC iPlayer, BBC Mobile and BBC Red Button – seven months after creating the role.

The hire is Ralph Rivera, the online president of pro video games league Major League Gaming since January, who had previously been a 10-year SVP and GM of games at AOL.

This ia a big hire, created by the BBC’s future media and technology director Erik Huggers in a March restructure that came when vision and online controller Anthony Rose left to be YouView’s CTO…

Starting November 8, Rivera will effectively be the BBC’s top online head apart from Huggers and, per the restructure, will have four general managers…

— Mark Kortekaas – General Manager, Online Technology Group.
— Phil Fearnley – General Manager, News and Knowledge.
Daniel Danker – General Manager for programmes and on-demand (POD).
— Christina Scott (Acting) General Manager, Children
