Motive Television, an acquisitions vehicle which buys Freeview-related businesses, has proposed buying 67.7 percent of Adecq Digital, the operator of on-demand enabler Bestv.
AIM-listed Motive is paying £1.6 million and has raised £4.75 million, “to grow Adecq Digital, make certain debt repayments and to provide additional working capital for the enlarged group”.
Adecq’s Bestv offers services to broadcasters for managing the delivery of their repertoire as VOD to set-top boxes. This could be a take-off area as hybrid Freeview PVRs gain popularity, particularly approaching YouView’s launch.
Motive says Adecq gives it the “opportunity to increase its size, increase its earnings potential and increase its presence”, adding Adecq is “now in advanced negotiations to provide its technology platform for a major European broadcaster”.
Motive recently acquired NXVision and says the pair are complementary.
Motive CEO Leonard Fertig: “The Bestv® technology has the potential to revolutionise terrestrial broadcasting by giving DTT operators opportunities to participate in pay television as well as catch-up television on the TV set without need for the Internet.”
