BBC Sharing News Videos With Russia’s GZT.ru

The BBC has signed a deal to syndicate news video to the website of Moscow newspaper Gazeta.

The arrangement will mean videos from BBCRussian.com appearing on GZT.ru, together with BBCRussian.com branding.

BBCRussian.com is a service of the BBC World Service, published in Russian. It sees the deal as a reach extension, taking its content to an extra 1.6 million users per week.

Owned by Vladimir Lisin and distributed in Moscow, Gazeta (not Novaya Gazeta) stepped back from print in April to focus on its website.

Its editor says he hopes to “widen” cooperation with the BBC in future. The BBC’s Russian service has been broadcasting since 1946.

At home, the BBC has offered to share English-language news video with UK newspapers, but the response has been low-key.

Release.
