Now that its long-time CEO Carolyn McCall has flown off to run budget airline easyJet, Guardian Media Group is giving its interim replacement Andrew Miller the job permanently, effective immediately.
Miller had been chief financial officer before he was picked as temporary chief when McCall announced her departure in April.
Miller will likely have a keen sense for the extent to which GMG’s core Guardian News & Media division is supported by other GMG groups – before becoming GMG CFO, he held the same role for Trader Media Group, the successful autos classifieds publisher turned digital outlet which GMG owns jointly with Apax.
As a finance guy, Miller’s appointment likely reinforces Guardian News & Media editor-in-chief Alan Rusbridger’s control over GNM’s content operations.
