UK News Sites Hit Record Traffic In Election Month

Unique browsers to the five national newspaper websites and groups which file monthly ABCe figures hit a record 131.8 million in May.

That’s 10 million more than April’s 121.8 million, suggesting UK election coverage was a big draw.

The number of browsers visiting the sites had fallen in February and April, so things are now moving in the right direction for these groups, who are all still favouring showing adverts to readers and keeping their sites free to read.

These figures leave out Times Online and Sun Online, which stopped publishing their ABCes in February.

Mail Online is really motoring, hitting 42.3 million in May.
