Stealth Scots Online Paper Coming January 25

We reported this week that former Scotsman.com editor Stewart Kirkpatrick is planning a new Scottish online-first newspaper. Asked by paidContent:UK if this is really launching or just a call to arms, Kirkpatrick said: “Oh yes, it’s going to happen.”

And here’s a fuller video interview he’s given Craig McGill: “We don’t need a lot of funding, this is designed to thrive in the new media marketplace. Nine or 10 areas of Scottish life that we feel aren’t being covered.”

Kirkpatrick’s project is just one of what may be a rash of new independent news sites to emerge in 2010 – partly inspired by The Huffington Post, it seems set to focus on politics.

But it’s no benevolent sideline: “My vision for this is to make money.” Not lots of money, though: he aims to make “a decent profit but not an obscene profit”.
