Spotify Planning BlackBerry Addition In Premium Mobile Tilt

Spotify does plan to follow its iPhone and Android apps with a BlackBerry download, we have learned.

The music service recently said it saw a spike in pay-for subscriptions from the mobile apps it has released so far.

Now it hopes to gain entry to RIM’s BlackBerry App World early in 2010.

Spotify itself is hoping to launch in the U.S. in Q4 or Q12010, delayed slightly from an earlier Q3/Q4 hope.

The addition could help satisfy RIM’s current music ambitions. RIM (NSDQ: RIMM) has been trying to position its handsets as entertainment gadgets as well as business messaging devices.

BlackBerry recently gained a service from UK/US vendor 7digital and also has song identification app Shazam.

A BlackBerry app will be one more route to monetisation for Spotify, whose mobile apps all require a premium subscription. But it’s no surprise – Spotify has pegged mobility as its biggest consumer premium temptation. But it’s also seeking bundled deals with carriers, having recently inked deals with Sweden’s Telia and 3 UK.

And its next target mobile platform will be Symbian, a version for which is also under development. S60 is already used by many in Spotify’s core European and Scandinavian markets and, though is the key OS for Nokia’s Ovi app store, Spotify doesn’t depend on Ovi distribution.
