It’s been more than four months since BSkyB and Microsoft announced an ambitious plan to delivery pay TV over the software maker’s Xbox 360 console. After eager interest shown by readers and viewers of our demo at the time, now they are finally nearly ready to go live with the service, if launching a UK TV marketing campaign is anything to go by.
The ad shows viewers watching football and movies on their console, but stops short of depicting some of the most exciting features that were promised in May – audio chatting along with Windows Live buddies watching the same show.
Sky Magazine has pinned the service for an October launch, according to Hexus, though a Sky spokesperson could not confirm this to us.
For BSkyB (NYSE: BSY), which cannot yet start delivering true pull VOD to the living room TV until it wires Ethernet in to its HD boxes, the tie-up is a much needed opportunity and one of the first times it has begun to deliver its content over a box that’s not its own. The service will bring Sky Player’s live and on-demand shows to the console.
