Visual Effects Firm The Foundry Gets Management Buy-Out

imageA software company that developed visual effects tools used to make the Star Trek, Harry Potter and Dark Knight movies is changing hands in a management buy-out led by VC firm Advent. The Foundry CEO Bill Collis, his co-founders and Advent are buying out the share of the company held by Wyndcrest Holdings.

The Foundry’s main products are graphics compositing application Nuke and Forge, which corrects flecks of dust, dirt and hair in video. The tools are used by the big post-production houses like Framestore and Sony (NYSE: SNE) Imageworks, and the company says it’s more than doubled revenue to $10 million in the last 18 months.
