High-end hi-fi and home entertainment retailer Richer Sounds is buying the website of electrical e-tailer EmpireDirect from its administrator KPMG. Leeds-based EmpireDirect fell in to administration after 25 years of operation last month, with the loss of 158 jobs, after credit insurers withdrew cover in October. The announcement from Richer Sounds, which has only 48 stores, doesn’t concern Empire’s 14 bricks-and-mortar shops; instead it’s buying the ecommerce site that did the bulk of Empire’s business. No acquisition price was revealed.
