Industry Moves: Independent’s Man Down Under Resigns Ahead Of APN Sell-Off

It hasn’t taken long for some at Independent News & Media’s (INM) Aussie division to jump ship, after hearing the publisher’s plans last week to sell its stake in the unit. Brendan Hopkins, INM’s director Down Under, has resigned following the news INM wants to sell its 39.1 percent share in Toowoomba Chronicle and New Zealand Herald publisher APN, of which he has also been CEO for six years.

INM’s statement: “Pending the outcome of this review, Mr Hopkins said he was mindful that APN and its shareholders would require his singular focus at this critical juncture and that his resignation from the board of INM is appropriate in these circumstances.
