Telegraph.co.uk Hugs Android, Brum Post Picks Web In Mobile News Drive

imageTelegraph.co.uk is amongst the first UK publishers to get in to Google (NSDQ: GOOG) Android on the bottom floor. The paper, which already has a mobile web version plus a mobile site customised for special iPhone-toting types, has launched an app on the new platform’s Marketplace, offering news, finance, sport, travel and motoring. Telegraph.co.uk has a range of web widgets as part of its many-pronged distribution strategy, but, unlike New York Times (NYSE: NYT), so far no iPhone app – curious, given Android is unlikely to be as popular as Apple’s handset. If Telegraph.co.uk’s lead is anything to go by, we could be seeing more UK news apps on the phone, which is due to debut October 30.

Meanwhile, Trinity Mirror (LSE: TNI) is following its Daily Mirror mobile web launch by launching a similar version for its Birmingham Post regional – the first of what will be 10 regional mobile websites, Guardian.co.uk says.
