Broadband Content Bits: iPlayer On SkyPlayer, Disney On BT Vision, Canal+’s US STB, Ofcom Plan

BSkyB (NYSE: BSY) iPlayer: Striking a blow for rhymes… Sky, whose SkyPlayer VOD service carries its own core channels plus those of close partners like NatGeo and is far less popular than BBC’s iPlayer, is seeking a shot in the arm by partnering with Auntie’s offering. Despite talk of the pair “striking a deal“, it’s as simple as Sky.com linking to iPlayer web pages from a new BBC section of its SkyPlayer site and from its genre categories.

Disney (NYSE: DIS) on BT (NYSE: BT) Vision: Disney Channel UK has signed a deal with BT Vision to add its shows to the IPTV service’s VOD feature from next week. They’ll come as individual PPV or with the price absorbed in the £6-a-month kids pack. Now there’s no escaping Hannah Montana any time of day or night. Via Guardian.co.uk.

Canal+: The French broadcaster is unveiling a new HD satellite set-top box with a snazzy rights window on US shows – US versions of American imports will be downloaded to the box just a week after being aired across the pond, and up to a year ahead of regular transmission on Canal+’s main French TV channel. The 320Gb Cube will also allow downloading of three previous seasons; cost
