Mail On Sunday and Mail Online managing director Stephen Miron is leaving to join Global Radio as CEO of radio. Miron spearheaded the release of Prince’s latest album as a free CD giveaway with the Sunday edition earlier this year, and has led the emergence and redesign of Mail Online, culminating in it briefly becoming the UK’s top online newspaper.
It means a big change form print and web to radio and… well… Global’s online strategy is not especially noteworthy. He won’t join until later this year. Global CEO Ashley Tabor told staff: “He is highly regarded within the media sector and I have been impressed with his achievements within the newspaper industry over many years and in particular the innovative and exciting developments he has brought to the Mail on Sunday.”
Miron’s appointment is one of four coming as Global begins adding its new GCap stations, its acquisition of which was recently cleared. Don Thomson and Michael Connole will report to Miron as COO and CFO respectively; global founder Richard Park becomes group exec director. GCap CEO and former Yahoo (NSDQ: YHOO) UK MD Fru Hazlitt left in the Global acquisition.
