Perhaps answering critics who argue its content line-up isn’t compelling enough, P2P TV platform Joost will start showing Premier League soccer in eight more territories, including the important Middle East region, after extending its deal with rightsholder Nimbus Sports. A fortnight back, the London-HQ’d service added to its US baseball and basketball coverage when it scored Premiership rights for India, Japan and Hong Kong via a sub-licensing deal with the Indian outfit, which won many mobile and internet rights in an auction from the league last summer. Now Joost is also bagging rights for Middle East, North Africa, Brazil, Belgium, Greece, Portugal, New Zealand and Oceania, IndianTelevision.com says. The deal covers the seasons 2007/2008 through 2009/2010 and is for highlights rather than live matches; matches will appear on a dedicated Joost Premiership channel.
