AOL Sells Philippines Call Center For $7.2 Million; Launches Spanish Portal

Customers: Time Warner is selling AOL’s (NYSE: TWX) Philippines-based customer care division to eTelecare Global Solutions, a local provider of outsourced telesales and customer support, for $7.2 million (release). eTelecare said it wants to grow its non-voice customer care options through e-mail and chat; the acquisition gives it AOL’s 1,000 employees. AOL customers will continue to get support from the same location, however, through a contract with the facility’s new owner.

Spain: AOL Europe today launched its latest new-look portal, AOL Espana. Following from last week’s launch of AOL.it, the Spanish site complements (indeed, is an identikit version of) those previously rolled out in Austria, Germany, Netherlands, France and the UK, with AOL repeating last week’s line that opening in Spain will allow it to compete for the country’s “huge opportunities for online advertising.” AOL COO Ron Grant talked to Staci Monday about the company’s aggressive international plans so look for more announcements like this.
