Industry Moves: EMI Adds Birt, NME.com Editor

EMI: The music group (LON:EMI) has hired former BBC director-general Lord Birt to the new supervisory board that will now steer the company through its transition from public ownership, which begins in earnest next Tuesday, September 18, with the company’s delisting from the stock exchange. Its a heavy-hitting advisory appointment (Birt was also a strategy adviser to the prime minister between 2000 and 2005), but Birt was already with EMI’s new private equity owners Terra Firma since he joined as an adviser in 2005. Announcement: “He will lead a review of the way in which EMI’s artists are served to ensure that EMI’s resources and expertise are fully focused on meeting their requirements.”

NME.com: IPC Ignite has appointed FHM.com editor David Moynihan as digital editor across its NME.com and Uncut.co.uk online magazines. Moynihan joined FHM.com in 2000 and became deputy editor four years later before being named editor this year. This is an editorial development role. Former NME.com editor Ben Perreau joined Sky.com as editorial development director last month.
