– EMI: Yahoo Europe’s director of entertainment Simon Gunning is quitting to take up a new role of senior digital VP for EMI UK and Ireland, C21 reports. Gunning, who spent 18 months at Yahoo, was formerly interactive media director at independent production company Celador, which he joined in 2004 after four years at Flextech, before which Gunning worked in the music industry. EMI has already been rather active in digital of late, making its DRM-free, high-quality music available to a range of retailers as well as iTunes Store.
– Trinity Mirror: The British newspaper publisher is promoting David Black, digital media director for its regionals division, to the new role of digital publishing group director, in which he will work on joint initiatives between both the regional, national and Scottish divisions as well as overseeing commercial, unifying responsibility for digital, which was previously split amongst the divisions. Trinity Mirror’s regionals division last week seemingly began the phasing out of its “ic” network of 45 newspaper websites when it launched new sites for the Liverpool Daily Post and Echo, both previously incorporated into icLiverpool.
